Reflections on My Odyssey

Most of us receive little or no education about caring for and feeding our bodies. Instead, we're seduced by fad diets and boring and meaningless exercises. Worst of all, we believe that physical decline is inevitable in midlife.

When I was 51, I had a pulmonary embolism and a high cholesterol count. But I accepted my fate, joining the ranks of millions of baby boomers on cholesterol-lowering drugs. Five years later, I was still eating too much, exercising too little, having trouble sleeping, and smoking two packs of cigarettes a day.

Then I ran into one of my clients, who I hadn't seen for several months, and I couldn't believe my eyes. A woman who had once been overweight and unattractive was now slim and beautiful!
