Squatting with Backman
David E. Kelley (35-year-old writer and producer)
As a lifelong hockey player, I was forced to stop skating due to incapacitating lower back pain from a herniated disk. After unsuccessful orthopedic and chiropractic therapy, I was told that my only option was surgery. Then a friend told me about Jerzy and his success with lower-back problems. I began squatting with Jerzy, first with a broomstick, and gradually with more and more weights, until I was lifting 200 pounds. After six months, I was back on the ice, playing hockey again.
Before starting the program, I had slightly elevated body fat (13%) and a high cholesterol level. Since following the practice, I have reduced my body fat to 9% and lowered my cholesterol level. Other benefits have included increased strength, cardiovascular improvement, greater energy, better sleep, a better appetite, a better understanding of Poland, and an exposure to great poetry.
